About Us

Anchor Bowmen Archery Club has been in existence for over 40 years and the earliest record known are minutes of a committee meeting from 1963 held at the Roebuck Inn, Melbourne.

Anchor Caves

The clubs name came from where it originally started, at the ground adjacent to the church at Swarkstone. This is very close to the river Trent and a hermits cave known as the Anchor Cave, which is understood to have originated from the earlier name of the church, The Anchor Church at Swarkstone Bridge.

The club has had many changes of ground over the last 40 years; Swarkstowe, Elvaston Castle, British Rail, Alvaston and Boulton Cricket Ground, Derby Rugby Club, Spondon Sports and Leisure Centre, but has always managed to retain its character and deep interest in the sport of Target Archery.

The Club now meets at the Asterdale Sportsgrounds, Borrowash Rd, Spondon and during the winter months at Lees Brook Community College, Morley Rd, Chaddesden. The club has been at The Asterdale since 1995.
